Two Surya Kiran aircraft practising for the upcoming Aero India air show collided in Bengaluru Tuesday, leading to the death of one pilot.

The two planes were carrying a total of three pilots — one of the planes had a co-pilot but only two pilots were able to eject.

The crash took place at Bengaluru's Yelahanka air base.

Bengaluru Police added that a civilian was also hurt in the crash.

Surya Kiran is the Indian Air Force's aerobatics team.

The team was formed in 1996, is part of the IAF's 52nd Squadron, and usually performs with nine aircraft.

Aero India will be held in Bangalore from February 20 to 24.
