
A Tirupur court in Tamil Nadu convicted 11 people on Tuesday for the murder of Dalit youth V Shankar.
Six of the convictswere given death sentences.
One was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The convicts who were given death sentences included Shankar's father-in-law.
Shankar, who was an engineer, and Kausalya had had an inter-caste marriage.
In March last year, Shankar was hacked to death by three men near a bus stand in Udumalpet, Tirupur.
Kausalya survived injuries to her head.
The brutal attack came to light after video footage of the attack went viral and a huge public outcry ensued.
The court said Tuesday that the killers had been hired by Shankar's father-in-law.
His mother-in-law was acquitted.
