
Indian Railways, the country's biggest public sector employer,will be conducting online examination for filling up its vacancies.
Over 2.8 crore people have enrolled for the examinations that have nearly 90,000 jobs on offer.
The number of applicants is expected to rise further before the last day of the application ends on Saturday.
The government may also offer 20,000 more jobs in the coming month.
The applications were invited for the posts of assistant loco pilots (train drivers), technicians, carpenters and crane drivers among others in Level 2 of the 7th Pay Commission. Other vacancies include posts forgangmen, switchmen, trackmen, cabinmen, welders, helpers and porters in Level 1 of the 7th pay panel.
The massive recruitment in the railway's sector is seen as Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal's bid to strengthen and expand thesize of the railway sector in the country. The move is also seen asthe government's attempt to fulfil itspromise of creating more jobs in the country
