The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards brought music’s biggest stars together at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre on September 27, with Snoop Dogg taking on hosting duties. The ceremony featured a mix of competitive awards, special honours and performances, including Madonna’s return to the VMAs stage after 23 years. Special recognition for Taylor Swift and Nirvana at MTV VMAs 2026
The ceremony also featured special recognition for Taylor Swift. She received the inaugural Artist Director Honours, an award created to recognise artists whose work behind the camera has contributed significantly to music-video storytelling. The honour also pushed Swift to 31 career VMA wins, moving her ahead of Beyoncé's previous record.
Nirvana was another major recipient of a special honour, with the band receiving the Video Vanguard Award. The ceremony also included performances from Madonna, Lisa, RAYE, Shaboozey, GENER8ION and Yung Lean, among others.
