Kangana Ranaut calls out Taapsee Pannu over ‘upbringing’ remark: 'Sasti copy is out'

The feud between Kangana Ranaut and Taapsee Pannu has resurfaced following their latest exchange. It began after Taapsee spoke about their past differences in an interview, leading to a sharp response from Kangana on social media. During the promotion of her upcoming film Gandhari, Taapsee was asked whether she and Kangana had ever reconciled.

What did Taapsee say?

Replying to the question, the actress shared that the two actors have never actually met. "I haven’t met her. I didn’t meet her before when these so-called issues started. I haven’t met her now as well. My opinion on her is reflective of my upbringing and my way of talking, my way of perceiving things and hers… she stands by hers. So, I think that’s enough for everybody to look and decide who comes from where," Taapsee told India Today.

Kangana's response

Kangana soon responded to Taapsee's remarks through her Instagram Stories. "One Sasti copy is out and about with her upcoming B grade film but as usual only headline point with the media is Kangana Ranaut, but today she crossed all limits shamelessly ridiculing my upbringing / parents, I think all parents do their best and I never bring any parents in to any argument, but today I also want to ask her parents why they couldn’t birth someone original like my parents did? Why a cheap Sasti copy? Feel sorry for your efforts," she wrote.

Then Kangana posted another story that read, "This is unfortunate and so wrong but she is not the only one many people who grew up in shady cramped up outskirts of cities in dingy rented apartments with questionable backgrounds and incomes often question my upbringing and malign my parents and background who hail from a renowned Rajput zamindar Family and raised by educated distinguished parents. It was a personal choice for me to start from scratch why attack my parents for that ? Where is this hubris coming from ? Jesus school English?"

However, the Instagram Stories were later deleted.

Taapsee and Kangana’s feud

The two actresses have never actually met, but the feud began in 2019, when Kangana’s sister, Rangoli Chandel, referred to Taapsee as a “sasti copy” of Kangana after Taapsee praised the trailer of Judgementall Hai Kya without mentioning Kangana.

Their differences resurfaced more prominently in 2020 during the debate around nepotism and the position of outsiders in Bollywood. Kangana had described Taapsee and Swara Bhasker as “B-grade actresses” and “needy outsiders”, while Taapsee maintained that actors from outside the industry should not be pitted against one another.

Taapsee will next be seen in the action thriller Gandhari, scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 3. Meanwhile, Kangana was last seen in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata.
