Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav played a match-winning knock against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (May 6), but Indian cricket fans were left worried as the star batter limped off the ground. The No. 3 batter looked visibly tired throughout the innings, leading to speculations that he was nursing an injury that could jeopardise his place in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Speaking after thematchwhere hewas giventhe Player of the Match award, Suryakumar, however, confirmed that he was not injured and that his hobbling was due to the amount of time he had spent in the middle.
"I've been doing this after a very long time -firsttime after 14thDecemberI've fielded for 20 overs and then batted for almost 18 overs.Littlebit tired (nothing else to worry about)," said Suryakumar.
"I feel it was the need of the hour - 3 wickets down when I went in. Someone had to play till the end,and that's whatI did.Playedfor some time - I knew that the dew was heavy, and once the seam goes off, itwillbe easy for a batter to play. Enjoyed my time,"headded.

Suryakumar's counterattack
Chasing a tricky target of 174, MI were off to a poor start and lost three wickets with the scoreboard only reading 31. From thereon, Suryakumar unleashed his audacious strokeplay against the SRH bowlers and managed to reach his century with a six,while alsohelping MI get over the line.
Suryakumarwas ably supportedby Tilak Varmawhoplayed a sensible 32-ball 37-run innings and helped sustain the counterattack launched by the right-hander dasher.
Speaking afterthe match, captain Hardik Pandya said the win was down to bowlers performing admirably in the first innings.
"We want to focus on playing good cricket. We were good with the ball today,stillreckon we gave 10-15runs extra. Nevertheless, the way batters batted was brilliant," said Pandya.
Suryakumar's resurgence with the bat augurs well for the Indian teamwhowill be relying on him to come good in the T20 World Cup. Indiahavebeen without an ICC trophy for more than a decadeandSuryakumar's form would be paramount in deciding if the jinx is brokenor not.
