Shreyas Iyer slams double ton for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy, makes big statement ahead of IPL mega auction

Shreyas Iyer has continued his impressive form for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy as he slammed 233 runs for the record domestic champions on Thursday (Nov. 7). Playing at the historic Wankhede Stadium, Iyer showcased his batting prowess to the Indian team selectors while also attracting interest from several Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. Interestingly, Iyer was not included in India A and the team touring South Africa despite being one of the senior members of the Indian team.

While Iyer’s batting dominance was the feature of the day, he made a huge statement at the end of 2024, having experienced ups and downs. He was first dropped from the central contract of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) but then helped KKR win the IPL. He was called back into the Indian side for the Sri Lanka tour but was not part of the Test side.

Another shock came on October 31 when he was released by KKR on the retention deadline day, meaning he will enter the auctions. The mega auctions will take place on November 24 and 25 in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, with Iyer having set a base price of INR 20 million.
