New Facebook app to secure users' data will also track their data usage

Social networking service, Facebook is introducing a wireless networking app, Onavo Protect, to some of its mobile app users.

The new wireless networking app is designed to protect users with the virtual private network or VPN.

Facebook offers the security feature in a tab in its mobile app marked "Protect"

The feature makes the app more secure when it is working on a public Wi-fi.

Though the social media giant has not disclosed it to its users that it owns the wireless networking app, the users can find the information on Onavo website. They can even expand the "description" on the Apple App Store and read till the bottom to find out that the app is owned by Facebook.

The app keeps a track of the applications installed on the device, use of those applications, websites visited by a user and the amount of data used by the user.
