The United Nations on Saturday said that they have planned to stop the mass executions of prisoners in the country following the execution of 38 members from the Islamic State group or Al-Qaeda for terrorism offences.

UN spokesperson Elizabeth Throssell claimed that considering the 'flaws' in Iraq's justice system, it is highly doubtful if a fair and stringent process was carried out in the execution.
She further added that this has lead to a possibility of 'irreversible miscarriages of justice and violations of the right to life'.
This has by far been the largest number of executions in Iraq on a single day since September 25 when 42 people were put to death in the same prison.
On December 9, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced "the end of the war" in the country against the Islamic State (IS) group and further added that their force was in full control of Iraqi-Syrian border.
