Ukraine war: Russia neutralised 114 drones launched by Ukraine overnight

Russia said on Friday (June 21) that it neutralised114 drones launched by Ukraine overnight, with at least one person killed in the attacks. In a statement, the defence ministry said that Russiananti-aerial defence systems intercepted and destroyed 70 drones over Crimea and the Black Sea, 43 drones over the Krasnodar region, and one drone over Volgograd.
The victimkilled in the attacks wasan employee of a heating station inKrasnodar, according toRegional Governor Venyamin Kondratyev. In a post on Telegram, Regional GovernorKondratyev said the person was killedwhen a drone struck the facility near the Yuzhny train station.
Several administrative buildings at an oil refinery were also damaged in Severski district, he added.

On Thursday, the Russian defence ministry claimedit ruined seven ammunition depots in Ukraine as well as equipment, includingarmoured vehicles, infantry fighting vehicles, electronic radar stations, and howitzers.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for more than two years now.In recent months, Ukraine has upped its attackson Russian territory, targeting energy sites.
Russian missile and drone strikes aimed atUkraine's energy infrastructure have crippled the country's electricity generation capacity and have forced Kyiv to impose rolling blackouts and import electricity from the European Union (EU).
Zelensky calls for measures to preserve energy system
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday announceda set of measures to protect his country's energy system, including protection for plants coming under Russian fire and the development of alternative renewable energy sources.
"Life in Ukraine must be preserved and that includes in particular energy security," President Zelensky said in his nightly video address.

Heoutlined plans to minimise the effects of such attacks, including a programme for developing solar energy and energy storage facilities and a schedule for critical infrastructure sites to come up with alternative energy sources.
The work, he said, must be completed before winter.
