Award-winning British artist Ellie Goulding was appointed UN Environment Global Goodwill Ambassador Sunday.
The singer shared the happy news on her Instagram profile with a picture of her feeding a giraffe at the Giraffe Manor in thesuburbs of the capital Nairobi, where UN Environment has its headquarters.
Her post reads: "I’m delighted to announce that I have become a UN Environment Global Goodwill Ambassador. Thank you to @unenvironment head @environmenterik for making it official @thesafaricollection #giraffemanor. All witnessed by Ed the giraffe (he’s pretty special. Only 800 of his species left). Feel very honoured ??."

Her focus of work as a UN Ambassador would include taking up projectsto clean the environment, tackle climate change and protect endangered species. She will focus "on amplifying the activism of young people committed to creating a bright future. I want as many people as possible to become advocates for the planet.”
In a statement, she said,“It’s a huge honour to become a UN Environment Global Goodwill Ambassador.Yes, we face huge global challenges, but we are also taking game-changing steps forward and that should inspire us."

"Love Me Like You Do" singer was earlier spotted collecting aGlobal Leadership Award from the UN.
In 2010, Ellie took homeBBC's annual Sound of... poll and the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards. She also won the Brit Award for the best female solo artist. Her debut album "Lights" ranked No. 1 in the U.K. with her next "Halcyon" released in 2012 ranking the same.
In October, the United Nations Foundation recognised Goulding with the New Voices Award in recognition of her environmental and social justice activism.
