
People who contract the killer coronavirus and die witness a lot of heavy organ damage, especially in the lungs.
Researchers today pointed out how the virus makes lungs of people almost unrecognisable.
Professor Mauro Giacca of King’s College London explained how coronavirus actually kills the patients. Earlier research pointed out how people who recover from COVID-19 may suffer lung-related ailments later on in their lives.
According to Giacca, patients who spent more than a month in the hospital suffered a “complete disruption of the lung architecture”.
This points out to post-recovery issues that scientists are still learning about, with many countries still far from the virus peaks, and fears of another fear causing panic across the world.

“Real problems” may linger after beating the virus. The professor studied the autopsies of patients in Italy who died after spending more than 30 days in the hospital.He found that a large amount of the virus continued to exist in lungs as well as fused cells.
“What you find in the lungs of people who have stayed with the disease for more than a month before dying is something completely different from normal pneumonia, influenza or the Sars virus,” he said.
“You see massive thrombosis. There is a complete disruption of the lung architecture – in some lights you can’t even distinguish that it used to be a lung”, he added.
“There are large numbers of very big fused cells which are virus positive with as many as 10, 15 nuclei,” he said.
“I am convinced this explains the unique pathology of Covid-19. This is not a disease caused by a virus which kills cells, which had profound implications for therapy”, the professor further said.
The Lords committee heard what scientists had to say about COVID-19 and its progression. The UK is currently in the process of reopening and easing restrictions.
