Connecticut US Presidential Election 2024: The presidential election in the United States (US) took place on November 5. Donald Trump (Republican Party) and Kamala Harris (Democratic Party) were the top contenders in the election.

Millions of eligible voters across the country's 50 states chose their preferred candidate who will lead the country for the next four years.

Trump won the election and will be the 47th president of the US. 

A look at the state of Connecticut

Connecticut’s seven electoral votes have gone to Democratic candidates every four years since 1992, with Republican George H. W. Bush the last GOP candidate to win the state back in 1988.

Connecticut is in the Eastern US and lies between major hubs of New York City (NYC) and Boston along the Northeast Corridor. According to the 2020 census, the state has a population of a little over 3.6 million.

Recent polls show that Kamala Harris is favoured among Connecticut voters over former Donald Trump.

How many House of Representatives seats are going for election in the state? Who are the candidates?

The election for the House of Representatives was also held on November 5 to elect representatives from all 435 congressional districts.

Connecticut has a total of five congressional districts. 

First congressional district:

The first congressional district is the most Democratic-leaning district in all of the state. According to a report by CT Insider, the last Republican elected in the district was Edwin May, who served a single term in Congress from 1957 to 1959.

This year, the contest is between Democrat John Larson and Republican Jim Griffin. Larson won the district by securing a total of 195,397 votes while Griffin secured 108,890 votes. 

Second congressional district:

Democrat Joe Courtney faced competition from Republican Mike France. In 2018, Courtney defeated France by 18 percentage points. 

This time too, Courtney defeated France by winning 218,287 votes in Total. France, on the other hand, managed to secure 157,877 votes. 

Third congressional district:

Veteran Democrat Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, 81, faced Republican Michael Massey.

CT Insider reported that before joining the world of politics, Massey served nearly a decade in federal prison for a bank robbery committed with another man in 2008. While in prison, Massey says he began following Trump.

DeLauro won the election after securing 172,147 votes while Massey secured 130,294 votes, data from the news agency Associated Press showed. 

Fourth congressional district:

Incumbent Democrat Jim Himes faced competition from Republican Michael Goldstein and Independent Benjamin Wesley.

Wesley, a political newcomer, is a mechanical engineer who joined politics in the hopes of ending the Russia-Ukraine war and the Gaza war.

Data from the Associated Press showed Himes again won the district and secured 170,928 votes.

Goldstein secured 110,684 votes while Wesley could only manage to get 4,458 votes.

Fifth congressional district:

Democrat Jahana Hayes, faced another round of battle from Republican George Logan after she defeated him by a narrow margin in 2022. 

This time too, Hayes emerged victorious as she secured 176,380 votes. Logan, meanwhile, could manage to get 155,381 votes.

Who won the 2020 presidential election?

Connecticut voted for Joe Biden as he won 59.24 per cent of the vote, while Trump won 39.21 per cent of the vote.

Results of 2024 election

Kamala Harris won Connecticut by securing the state's seven electoral votes. Donald Trump came second.
