US presidential election 2024: Who will win Colorado?

Colorado US Presidential Election 2024: Election season is at its peak in the United States (US). Millions of eligible voters across the country's 50 states chose their preferred candidate who will lead the country for the next four years.

Republican Donald Trump won the election after defeating Democrat Kamala Harris. Trump will now be the country's 47th president.

A look at the state of Colorado

Colorado is one of the Mountain states in the US, sharing the Four Corners region with Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. According to the United States Census Bureau, the estimated population of the state is over 5.87 million. There are over 4.56 million registered voters in Colorado.

A report by the Denver Post last month said that Kamala Harris was on track to win by a double-digit margin in the November 5 election.The poll conducted byKeating Research found that Harris had an 11-point lead over Donald Trump.

How many House of Representatives seats are going for election in the state? Who are the candidates?

The election for the House of Representatives was also heldon November 5 to elect representatives from all 435 congressional districts.

Colorado has a total of eight congressional districts. The results of six districts have been released while two seats remain uncalled, data from the National Election Pool (NEP) showed.

Incumbent Democrat Diana DeGette won the election in the first congressional district after winning 189,759 votes while RepublicanValdamar Archuleta came second with 49,579 votes.

DeGette is currently the longest-serving member of Colorado’s delegation, representing Denver in the House since 1997.

Since 2019, the second congressional district has been represented by Democrat Joe Neguse. He won this time again- securing over 254,000 votes. Republican Marshall Dawson came second with 106,769 votes.

Republican Jeff Hurd emerged as the winner as he secured 194,044 votes.Democrat Adam Frisch came second after securing 178,263 seats.Libertarian James Wiley came third with 10,049 votes.

The third congressional district is Colorado's largest,covering the entire western side of the state and stretching east across the San Luis Valley to include the southern portion of the I-25 corridor.

Republican Lauren Boebert was the representative for the Congressional district. However, she announced in late 2023 that she would seek a different seat. Boebert represented the third congressional district for two terms.

Lauren Boebert (Republican Party) emerged victorious in this district as she won 219,239 votes. Boebert defeated first time-Democratic candidateTrisha Calvarese who got 176,050 votes.

Boebert became the Republican candidate for this district following the retirement ofCongressman Ken Buck.

The fifth congressional district, whichcoversColorado Springs, was wide open this year following the retirement of Doug Lamborn (Republican Party).

Republican Jeff Crank won the district with 142,053 votes.Democrat River Gassen secured 108,172 votes and independent candidate Michael Vance won a little over 3,500 votes.

Incumbent Democrat Jason Crow facedcompetition from Republican John Fabbricatore. Crow won with 162,034 votes whileFabbricatore secured 106,047 votes.

Earlier voting patterns suggested that Democrats should have around a 15-point advantage in the sixth congressional district.

Democrat Brittany Pettersen defeatedpolitical newcomer Sergei Matveyuk (Republican Party) after she secured 230,530 votes. Matveyuk managed to get 171,081 votes.

This is the second consecutive win for Pettersen. Pettersen faces competition from political newcomer Sergei Matveyuk, a leader of the Republican Party.

The eighth congressional district is Colorado's newest, created in 2021. The 2022 election was won by Democrat Yadira Caraveo.

This year, she faceda challenge from Republican Gabe Evans, a former police officer who was elected to the legislature in 2022.

This time, Evans won the election after securing 162,492 votes while Caraveo could secure 160,104 votes.

Who won the 2020 presidential election?

Joe Bidenwon Colorado with over 55 per centof the vote and by a victory margin of 13.50 per cent. Donald Trump, meanwhile, managed to secure nearly 42 per cent of the vote.

Results of 2024 election

According to the news agency Associated Press, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris emerged victorious in Colorado, winning the state's 10 electoral votes.

Colorado was once a purple state, flipping between Democratic and Republican presidential candidates, but it has shifted blue in the past two decades. The last Republican presidential candidate to snag Colorado’s electoral votes was George W. Bush in 2004.
