PM Modi arrives in Vienna; First visit by Indian PM in over 40 years
PM Modi's visit to Austria
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vienna on Tuesday (July 9), following Modi's significant visit to Russia.
Upon arrival, PM Modi was welcomed by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg at the airport. Modi will call on Austria President Alexander Van der Bellen and hold formal talks with Nehammer on Wednesday (July 10).
Austrian Chancellor Nehammer hosted Modi for a private engagement, embracing him and taking a selfie as Modi became the first Indian leader to visit Austria in nearly 40 years.
Nehammer took to social mediaX and wrote, "Welcome to Vienna, PM @narendramodi ! It is a pleasure and honour to welcome you to Austria. Austria and India are friends and partners. I look forward to our political and economic discussions during your visit!”

Prime Minister Modi thanked the Chancellor for a warm welcome and replied to the post by saying, "Thank you, ChancellorKarl Nehammer, for the warm welcome. I look forward to our discussions tomorrow as well. Our nations will continue working together to further global good."
PM Modi's Austria visit marks the first by any Indian prime minister in the last 40 years. In 1983, the then PM Indira Gandhi visited the Central European nation.
PM Modi concludes Russia visit
Prime Minister Modi on Monday (July 8) began his state visit to Russia to hold the 22nd India-Russia annual summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During his visit, PM Modi and the Russian President discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation in sectors including energy, trade, manufacturing and fertilisers.
PM Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin that war is not a solution, in his first comment on the Ukraine crisis since his Moscow visit began. Modi also highlighted how it gave him "immense pain" when innocent children were killed.
"I am happy that we could discuss about the war in Ukraine with an open mind, and we listened to each other's thoughts on the war with great respect," PM Modi said during bilateral talks with Putin.
