Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her seventh straight Budget on Tuesday (July 23). To date, she has presented six annual budgets and one interim budget. As always, she announced various schemes in different sectors and talked about customs duty, healthcare, education, employment, tourism and mostimportantof all, tax slabs. The last one is what common peoplearemostconcerned about. For most of us, it is not possible to decipher and decode everything that is said in a Budget. And so are born, the memes. Here are some memes on the Budget 2024.
Most of the memes were about the expectations the middle class had from Sitharaman regarding tax slabs and some relief. However, people aren't happy with the new tax slabs as they don't provide much relief, especially since the change has only been made in the new tax regime.
A few memes also pointed out how Bihar and Andhra Pradesh received the lion's share of finances.
However, most of the memes were simply about how it is too hard to understand the meaning of everything the finance minister says on the day. They used references from the Hindi film Munnabhai MBBS, a classic during every Budget.
A few minor changes were madein the income tax slabs, but only in the new regime. The standard deduction has been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000. This is what the tax slab looks like -
No tax up to Rs 3 lakh
Rs 3-7 lakh at 5%
Rs 7-10 lakh at 10%
Rs 10-12 lakh at 15%
Rs 12-15 lakh at 20%
Above Rs 15 lakh 30%
Angel tax for all classes of investors has been removed and the corporate tax rate on foreign companies has been decreased from 40 to 35 per cent.
