WhatsApp down: Service unavailable for many users globally
The messaging application WhatsApp was reportedly down on Wednesday (Apr 3) night for many users in India and the world, with #whatsappdown becoming the top trend on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Several users of Meta Platforms-owned WhatsApp complained that they faced an error message, which said the service was currently unavailable.
The outage tracking website Downdetector.com noted that messaging service was resumed for some people. The site aims at tracking outages by collating status reports from a number of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
As per Downdetector.com, around 3,200 people were also facing issues with Instagram in the United States.

"We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we're working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible," WhatsApp said in a post on the social media platform X.

Downdetector said that in the US, there were about 2,500 incidents where users reported issues with the messaging platform. Nearly 3,500 users in India, about 10,000 in the United Kingdom and over 7,000 in Brazil also reported problems with the platform, it added.
Meta outage in March
Last month, Meta platforms Facebook and Instagram were down for tens of thousands of users who faced a global outage caused by a technical issue for more than two hours.
The disruptions started at around 1500 GMT when many users said on X that they had been logged out of Facebook and Instagram.
Facebook automatically kicked the users out, displaying an error message saying that the login had expired. The user ID and passwords were also rejected. Messenger, Instagram and Threads- a microblogging platform similar to X- were also impacted.
