Great Britain’s Andy Murray dropped curtains on his illustrious Wimbledon career on Saturday (July 6) after his mixed doubles partner Emma Raducanu withdrew due to wrist soreness. Her withdrawal meant Murray’s career at Wimbledon ended after having already withdrawn from the men’s singles while losing in the men’s doubles alongside brother Jamie on Thursday.
His men’s doubles match on Thursday proved to be the final time he officially stepped on the court at Wimbledon and he will now look to end on a high later in the year.
Raducanu's withdrawal ends Murray’s Wimbledon career
Having opted not to play in the men’s singles, Murray wanted to compete in the doubles in both mixed and men’s categories. However, his men’s doubles career at Wimbledon ended on Thursday after losing 7-6, 6-4 to John Peers and Rinky Hijikata of Australia. This meant Saturday’s match with Raducanu was set to be the last lap for Murray at the Championships where he has won two singles titles.
However, that journey came to an end even before it started after Raducanu was forced to withdraw. Interestingly, the former women’s singles champion at the US Open will continue to play in the singles draw as she prioritises the individual format here she is in the fourth round.

“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy, but I’ve got to take care,” Murray said after Raducanu’s withdrawal.
The late decision on Saturday also meant that Murray was unable to name a replacement and was therefore forced to sit out of the mixed doubles draw. The 37-year-old will announce his retirement from the sports at the end of the season, having already announced his intention.
Murray’s next challenge will be at the Summer Olympics later in the month where he will represent Great Britain.
