The San Francisco 49ers are considering putting running back (RB) Christian McCaffrey on Injured Reserve (IR) list and he is set to miss the upcoming game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday (Sep 15).
The developments around McCaffrey were shared by 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday (Sep 13) at a news conference.
"It's something (putting him on IR) we're considering now," Shanahan said. "Yesterday was his worst day. It's on and off, but with yesterday having the most pain. It's something we're going to be discussing together in the next 24 hours," he added.

If the 49ers decide to put the RB on IR then he'll surely be missing at least four more games as per the National Football League (NFL) policy and will become eligible to play on October 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.
McCaffrey also interacted with the reporters earlier this week and explained his mindset of being adamant to play in the season opener. The RB eventually missed out on the first game of the season against the New York Jets.
"My mindset every week is I'm going to play," McCaffrey had said on Wednesday (Sep 11).
"There's been weeks where I'll go the full week, not even feeling good enough to do the walk-through, and then I wake up and the body's capable of a lot of cool things. Mentally, I'm always prepared to play, and then I woke up and it was a group decision, a very tough one. I hate not playing, but I look at it as a chess move and something that hopefully you can benefit from the rest of the season," he added.
In his absence, Jordan Mason is expected to make his second consecutive start after an electrifying game against the Jets.
Mason racked up 147 yards in 28 carries, averaging 5.2 yards per carry plus a touchdown in the game the 49ers won 32-19.
