Bumrah said he contemplated the move as a backup plan, that was aided by the presence of his family members in the Western nation.

"We have had these conversations before. Every boy wants to make it big and play cricket. Every street has 25 players who want to play for India. You have to have a backup plan. Our relative lives there. I thought I will finish my education and...my uncle lives there," said Bumrah.

Move with family: Bumrah

The Indian speedster said the initial plan was to move there as a family but his mother pulled out saying it would be a different culture for her to adjust.

"My mum had become a school principal, so she did not want to go there as it's a different culture."

"I am very happy and very lucky that things worked out, Otherwise I don't know if I would have tried to play for the Canadian team and do something there as well. Glad it worked out here. I am playing for the Indian team and Mumbai Indians," Bumrah added.

Bumrah was picked by MI in 2013 and has never looked back since. He recently picked his 150th wicket for the franchise in only 124 appearances. As for the national side, he has been a pivotal figure around which the entire bowling lineup revolves. The 30-year-old has picked a total of 382 wickets in 187 matches across formats.

Bumrah is key to India's fortunes in the upcoming T20 World Cup and if he can fire, the men-in-blue might be able to end their ICC trophy drought, stretching back to 2013.
