China: 17 dead as dragon boat capsizes
According to reports, at least 17 people were killed on Saturday in China after two dragon boats capsized. The accident happened in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
The accident happened while the boats were practising for a race in the Taohua River in Guilin.
The boats overturned owing to strong current. Another dragon boat, which arrived at the scene, also capsized.
Reports suggest close to 60 people tipped into the water. Rescue operations deployed nearly eight boats and over 200 people.
Dragon boat race is popular in parts of Asia. China's Dragon Boat Festival is one of the main attractions in the country. Nationwide races are held during China's traditional holidays.
