Tamil Nadu BJP MLA faces flak for sharing offensive post on women journalists

Tamil Nadu's BJP leader S Ve Shekher shared a derogatory post on social media and sparked an outcry. The post, which has now been deleted was originally posted by a user called Thirumalai S and depicted Governor Banwarilal Purohit patting a journalist’s cheek during a press conference.

The post was titled “Madurai University, Governor and the Virgin Cheeks of a Girl” and contained written statements that were offensive and derogatory to female journalists. 

According to reports, the Facebook post suggested that females in the country cannot become reports and anchors without "sleeping with bigshots"

“More than universities, sex abuse is rampant in the media. It’s these people who question the governor,” the post read

Shekher has been facing heat for having endorsed something so derogatory and questionable to the integrity of women and journalists. 

The MLA, in his defence, claimed that sharing the post was a mistake on his end and that he had done it without reading the entire content of the post. He apologised earlier today. 

"I had posted it without reading the message. It was removed immediately after my friend pointed it out. If I had hurt anyone, it was not on purpose & I extend my heartfelt apology," Shekher's statement read.

Incidentally, the Governor has also apologised for patting the journalist's cheek.
