A long-running matrimonial dispute within the Nagod royal family in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district escalated into violence when Yogita Singh, the first wife of royal family member Rupendra Kumar Singh, was allegedly shot inside the historic Parsamaniya Garhi fort.

An Indian lawmaker from Gujarat’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is being praised by many after a clip of him jumping into the river and saving three people from drowning went viral on social media.

Rajula Hira Solanki, a lawmaker of the state assembly from Rajula constituency, was at the spot when the whole incident took place.&nbsp;

On May 31 afternoon, four youths ventured into a creek near a seashore in Patwa village for a swim. However, they were overwhelmed by strong currents and powerful waves and started getting drifted towards deep water.

As the youths started screaming for help, Solanki, who just happened to be at the spot, heard and rushed towards them. He was then able to rescue them with the help of some other people.

Three out of the four youths were rescued. But the fourth, Jeevan Gujaria, died due to drowning. His body was found in the evening.

The clip of the rescue spread like wildfire on social media, and many praised the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for his heroic effort.

Solanki and his brother Purshottam Solanki have been members of the Gujarat legislative assembly since 1998, representing Bhavnagar.

This is the third incident that has taken place last month. On May 20, six members of a family drowned in the seawater in the city of Bharuch, more than 300 kilometres from Patwa.&nbsp;

The incident took place at Dajej Beach in Bharuch when a family hailing from Muller Village had gone for a picnic.

On May 14, five children in Gujarat's Botad district drowned in the Krishna Sagar Lake. According to local media reports, two children were swimming in the lake when they started drowning. Following this, three others jumped into the lake to save them and eventually, they also drowned.

Karnataka BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa has also urged for the voting to be held today. "Even if it is midnight, let the trust vote be held today," he said in the assembly.&nbsp;

After a BJP delegation met Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala on Thursday over delay in the trust vote, he asked Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh to consider holding the trust vote by end of the day.

"Motion of confidence is in consideration at the house. Chief Minister is expected to maintain the confidence of the house at all times. Consider trust vote by the end of the day," he told the Speaker in a letter.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy moved confidence motion in the state Assembly at 11 am to prove the majority of his government amidst rebellion by a section of the lawmakers.

"I haven't come just because there is a question on whether I can run a coalition government or not. Events have shown that even the role of the Speaker has been put under jeopardy by some legislators," Kumaraswamy said in his opening speech.

He claimed that the dissenting legislators had moved the apex court with the BJP's assistance."A situation has been created so that people lose trust in us. Without any discussion they have wanted a trust vote", Kumaraswamy said.

BJP leaders claimed JD(S)-Congress coalition was delaying the trust vote fearing imminent defeat due to lack of majority numbers.

Karnataka is facing a political turmoil ever since 13 Congress MLAs and 3 MLAs from the JDS have resigned from the Legislature. Further, two independent MLAs withdrew their support from the government.&nbsp;

Only those "begging for vote" host Iftar parties, controversial Telangana BJP MLA T Raja Singh Lodh said today, declaring he would neither host nor attend such events.

Known for making contentious statements, the MLA from Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad posted a video message on a social networking site where he said one of his friends suggested him to hold an Iftar party like many other lawmakers do during the holy month of Ramzan.

"These days many Telangana legislators are busy hosting Iftar parties, wearing skull caps and taking selfies. They think if they have to do vote bank politics, they will have to think of 'sabka saath, sabha vikas' (together will all, development for all).

"This is their thinking. Those who sit with them (those attending Iftar) are 'vote ke bhikhari' (beggars for vote). My thinking is different," he said.

Singh said his religion Hinduism taught giving respect to everyone.

"But some religions and their religious books preach to kill Hindus as they are 'Kafir' (a term literally meaning non-believers but often construed as insulting to followers of other religions). How can I attend an Iftar or host one for those who talk of killing Hindus?" he said.

Singh said when his friend disputed his contention and wanted a proof in support of his claim, he told him that it was mentioned in the "green book".

"This green book is responsible for the spread of terrorism in India and it should be banned. I will fight to get it banned," he said.

The BJP leader said he dreams of an "akhand Hindu rashtra" (an undivided Hindu nation), building a Ram temple in Ayodhya, a ban on cow slaughter in the entire country and return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

He said it was because of "secularwadi" (secularist) Hindus that the Mughals and the British ruled India.

"When there are over 50 Muslim countries and more than 100 Christian countries, why can't there be a single Hindu nation?" he asked.

Singh has been booked by the Hyderabad police several times over alleged provocative speeches and statements.

He once said the heads of those opposing construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya be chopped off.

Singh recently accused Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of hosting Iftar at different mosques in the state to "appease" the minorities.

The Supreme Court on Friday had asked the Yeddyurappa-led BJP government to conduct a floor test to prove its majority in the Karnataka assembly.

The apex court issued the order following a petition challenging Karnataka Governor's invitation to BS Yeddyurappa to take oath as chief minister.

Procedurally, the Governor elects the senior most member as the pro-tem Speaker.

Reacting to the appointment of pro-tem Speaker, Congress leader&nbsp;Abhishek Manu Singhvi said according to rule book senior most leader is supposed to hold the position.&nbsp;&nbsp;

''What the BJP has done is against the rulebook. Ideally,&nbsp;the senior most leader is supposed to hold that position,'' Singhvi said on BJP MLA KG Bopaiah being appointed as pro-tem Speaker.

“More than universities, sex abuse is rampant in the media. It’s these people who question the governor,” the post read

Shekher has been facing heat for having endorsed something so derogatory and questionable to the&nbspintegrity of women and journalists.&nbsp

The MLA, in his defence, claimed that sharing the post was a mistake on his end and that he had done it without reading the entire content of the post. He apologised earlier today.&nbsp

In the first attack, an eight-year-old girl was kept captive in a temple in Kathua, Jammu. The child was sedated and gang-raped repeatedly.&nbsp;

The alleged mastermind was a retired revenue official and policemen were allegedly involved in the crime.&nbsp;

The Unnao gang rape only came to light when the girl and her family tried to immolate themselves outside the residence of the Uttar Pradesh chief minister.&nbsp;

The girl said she had been raped by the BJP MLA from Unnao Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his associates in May 2017 but had got no justice.&nbsp;

The girl's father died a few days later. He was reportedly beaten by Sengar's brother in front of the police who allegedly did nothing because of the MLA's clout.&nbsp;

Sengar's brother has been arrested. Sengar himself was finally arrested only after the CBI took over the case.&nbsp;

Facing flak over the delay in taking action against the MLA in the nearly year-old rape case, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said his government will not deviate from its zero-tolerance policy on crime and that it would firmly deal with criminals, no matter how influential they might be.&nbsp;

Unnao rape case: Medical superintendent, Casualty officer at Unnao district Hospital suspended

Inviting controversies over his comments on the Unnao rape case, Minister of State Human Resources and Development, Satyapal Singh said on Monday "sometimes the allegations are also proven wrong".

He said, " The SIT has submitted its report, strict action will be taken against guilty. I don't know how much is he (Kuldeep Singh Sengar) involved in the case, sometimes allegations are proven wrong also".

The police on Thursday registered an FIR against the alleged accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in connection to the gangrape of a minor girl in Unnao.

Sometimes allegations are proven wrong: HRD Minister of State on Unnao gang rape

The father of a woman, who had alleged that she was raped by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and his accomplices, died in police custody, on Monday.

An inquiry has been ordered and two police officers and four constables&nbsp;suspended.

The woman's father was arrested on Sunday after the family attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's Lucknow residence.

"The man was admitted to the hospital last night after he complained of abdominal pain and vomiting. He passed away in the early morning hours. He was admitted to the hospital by the police," Dr Atul, District hospital, Unnao told ANI.

However, the relatives alleged that he was murdered in the jail by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP MLA from Unnao named as accused by the rape victim.

The woman and her family alleged that she was raped by the BJP MLA and his fellow accomplices on June 4 last year, but no action was taken.

The victim also said that she and her family were threatened after they had filed an FIR, which the Police had registered after stalling it for a year.

The family further alleged that the MLA's brother had thrashed the woman's father on April 3 for refusing to cancel the FIR, but the Police booked the father instead, and locked him up for a period of one year. Police have now arrested four persons accused of beating the father.

Sengar has denied the allegations and called it a conspiracy hatched by his political opponents.

"It's a conspiracy hatched by my political opponents to damage my reputation. I have no problems with any probe. Let a probe be conducted, and the guilty be given the stringent punishment. If I am found guilty in the probe, I am ready to face the punishment," Sengar told news agency PTI.

A probe into the rape case is underway and has been transferred to Lucknow.

BJP leader Anwar Khan escaped a terrorist attack at Balhama village in Jammu and Kashmir&#39;s Pulwama district &#39;s Khanmoh area on Thursday, but his personal security officer (PSO) was injured in the incident, the police said.

Terrorists fired upon Anwar Khan, a BJP leader, at Balhama in Pulwama district, a police official said.

While Khan escaped the attack unhurt, his PSO, constable Bilal Ahmad, was injured in the incident, the official added.

BJP leader Anwar Khan escaped a terrorist attack at Balhama village in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district 's Khanmoh area on Thursday, but his personal security officer (PSO) was injured in the incident, the police said. Terrorists fired upon Anwar Khan, a BJP leader, at Balhama in Pulwama district, a police official said. While Khan escaped the attack unhurt, his PSO, constable Bilal Ahmad, was injured in the incident, the official added. He said the injured policeman was rushed to a hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable. Security forces have cordoned off the Khanmoh area in Pulwama district after the terrorists attack.

The son of a former BJP MLA was shot dead&nbsp;at the Kasmanda House, barely 300 metres from the Uttar Pradesh Legislature building and the state BJP office.

Vaibhav Tiwari (36), the son of former Domariyaganj MLA Prem Prakash Tiwari alias Gippy Tiwari, was called by some of his acquaintances from his residence at the Kasmanda House, Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow Zone, Abhay Prasad said.

Following an altercation, Vaibhav was shot dead, he said.

Gippy Tiwari was BJP MLA from Domariyaganj in 1989, 1991 and 1993. Then in 2014 he went to the Samajwadi Party. In this year&#39;s Assembly elections, however, he campaigned for the BJP.

Vaibhav was the only son of the former MLA and a local BJP leader said that he reportedly had love marriage with a non-Brahmin girl.

The police said that investigation is going on.
