Former media baron Peter Mukerjea has finally agreed to divorce his wife and prime accused in the Sheena Bora case Indrani Mukerjea , her lawyer announced on Monday.
The divorce procedure may take some time as both are in jail, a lawyer representing Indrani Mukerjea in the murder case told reporters outside a Mumbai court.
"We have received a reply through registered post from Peter's lawyer and they have agreed to divorce by mutual consent," she said
On Monday, over a month after she sent him a notice, Peter Mukerjea, 64, consented to divorce his wife, 16 years his junior. Indrani had sent him a notice for an amicable end to their 16-year-old marriage, his second and believed to be her third.
The settlement plan is to divide properties and assets, including properties in Spain and London, and bank fixed deposits and other substantial investments in domestic and foreign banks.
Stating that the marriage had "irretrievably broken down", Ms Indrani had sent a divorce notice to Peter Mukerjea in April this year.
Both Ms Indrani and Ms Peter are facing trial in the murder case of Sheena Bora. Ms Sheena (24), Indrani's daughter from an earlier relationship, was allegedly killed in April 2012.
