Karunanidhi death: PM Modi to fly to Chennai as Tamil Nadu observes one-week mourning

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief and five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu Muthuvel Karunanidhi passed away today in Kauvery Hospital, Chennai. He was 94.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be flying to Chennai on Wednesday to pay his respects to former Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi after he passed away on Tuesday evening.
"Tamil Nadu will miss him immensely," Prime Minister Narendra Modi had tweeted earlier.
The Tamil Nadu government announced a public holiday on Wednesday. The state will observe a seven-day mourning as a mark of respect for the former chief minister.
Along with PM Modi,Telangana chief minister KCR,Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will be reaching Chennai on Wednesday to pay respect to the late leader.
Shutters of all shops closed near MGRBus Stand in Mattuthavani, Madurai. A total of 30 private services heading from Madurai to Chennai and Bengaluru have been stopped.
All movie screenings have been cancelled for tonight and tomorrow.As a mark of respect to the departed former Chief Minister, MKarunanidhi, all trade and business establishments in the State would remain closed till the mortal remains of the leader is laid to rest, according to reports.
