A heavy rain alert has been issued in Uttrakhand on Wednesday for the next 72 hours, the Regional MET official informed.

As per reports, heavy rains will begin on Thursday and possibly go in till Saturday, the Indian Metrological Department said on Wednesday.

Officials with the state government said preventive measures have already been initiated in the districts where rains are likely to occur with high intensity.

The South West monsoon is expected to arrive in the capital city on Wednesday, the IMD further said.

According to the IMD, the weather in Delhi and surrounding regions today will be "generally cloudy, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers." The maximum temperature in Delhi will be 32 degrees Celsius, which is 5 degrees below normal, and the minimum temperature will settle at 28 degrees Celsius, considered normal for this time of year.

The IMD said that the South West monsoon is expected to cover the entire country in the next two days.

Serious thunderstorm activity prior to the monsoon in north-west India is expected, according to IMD officials, quoted by ANI.
