Fuel prices continue to mount for 16th straight day

The escalating fuel prices in the country spilt into its 16th consecutive day as petrol price per litre in Delhi climbed to Rs 78.43. Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata witnessed petrol prices breaking the Rs 80+ mark at Rs 86.24, Rs 81.43 and Rs 81.06 respectively.
Diesel in the national capital amounted to Rs 69.31 per litre while for Mumbai it stood at Rs 73.79. For Chennai, diesel price hit Rs 73.18 per litre and for Kolkata, it was registered at Rs 71.86.
On Monday, petrol price per litre in Delhi shot up to Rs 78.27. For Mumbai, petrol per litre was registered at Rs 86.08, Rs 80.91 in Kolkata and Rs 81.26 per litre in Chennai.
Diesel prices were recorded at Rs 69.17 per litre in Delhi, Rs 73.64 in Mumbai, Rs 71.72 per litre in Kolkata and Rs 73.03 for a litre in Chennai.
After nearly a fortnight of fuel price hike in India, reports suggest that the government may not give relief from fuel price hike. According to reports, the government has been banking for a global price drop. The mounting fuel prices come as a result of rising global crude oil prices and high excise duty in the country. However, the international prices of Brent crude oil have fallen by nearly $3 per barrel in the last couple of days.
