Three newborns died after a massive fire engulfed a district hospital in the Amravati district of Maharashtra. The fire erupted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on the third floor of the hospital at approximately 3.30 am. Soon after the incident, an evacuation drive was reportedly launched by doctors along with nurses and other staff on duty.
Hospital personnel succeeded in evacuating a number of infants from the ward, with six of them subsequently moved to a super-speciality facility for continued care. Police arrived at the scene and began an initial investigation, though the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
