Actor Rajpal Yadav has got relief in the Rs 9 crore cheque-bounce case after the Supreme Court ordered him to deposit Rs 5 crore with its registry.
On Tuesday, the apex court laid down its condition to exempt the actor from surrendering to serve another jail term in his much-publicised case. This follows the Delhi High Court's July sentence of three months in jail in the same case.

In what is being seen as a major relief for Yadav, the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice on the actor's plea challenging the Delhi High Court's judgment.
In the cheque-bounce case involving Delhi-based film producer-financier Murli Projects Pvt Ltd, the SC directed the actor to deposit Rs 5 crore with its Registry by Wednesday (Sept 9).

With this order, a bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana took up the special leave petitions in seven cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
“On the oral mentioning, the special leave petitions are taken on board,” the CJI Kant-led Bench said in its order.
In July, the Delhi High Court sentenced the actor to three months’ jail. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma ordered Yadav to serve three months of simple imprisonment in each of the seven cases, as per Live Law. The court ordered Yadav to serve the sentence by Sept 10.
What is Rajpal Yadav's case all about?
Yadav was sent to three months' imprisonment for failing to repay a loan of Rs 5 crore. His company had reportedly taken the loan to produce a film that tanked at the box office. Delhi-based company Murli Projects filed the case against Yadav's company Shree Naurang Godavari Entertainment for failing to repay the loan, which the actor took in 2010 to make his Hindi directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata.
