The Harry Potter series is getting bigger and grander. The newest addition to the wizarding world is none other than Game of Thrones-fame Kit Harington.
He will play a con-artist wizard in the HBO series. This comes after he voiced the character of Gilderoy Lockhart in the audiobook.
Kit Harington joins Harry Potter series: Why his character will appear on season 2, not 1?
The first season of the much-anticipated Harry Potter series is coming in December this year. But while the Potterheads prepare for that, the makers have already started working on the season 2, which is based on J.K. Rowling's Chamber of Secrets.
With this latest casting announcement, Harington will step into the show in season 2 to play Lockhart, a role previously set to be essayed by actor Nicholas Hoult. However, as per reports, Hoult chose to step out of the project due to scheduling conflicts with two other projects. In the 2002 movie adaptation, Kenneth Branagh famously played Gilderoy.
This is Harington's second huge series collaboration with HBO after playing a pivotel role in Game of Thrones. Season 2 will start filming this fall.

Who is Gilderoy Lockhart?
Lockhart enters in Harry's second year at Hogwarts as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Hired by Dumbledore, Lockhart is wildly famous for his achievements as a wizard, who has done various things, including defeating dangerous creatures and dark wizards. But, he is a fraud in reality and a con-artist who steals stories from other wizards by using his magic; he raises their memories and takes credit for their achievements.
Harry Potter series season 1: When it will release, cast and more
The eight-episode first season will premiere on HBO on Christmas Day. While the excitement for the show is sky-high, there is also fear about how this series experiment will pan out. Young actor Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger.
