Players like Rohit and Virat are...: Ex-BCCI chief selector on underfire duo
India have a stern task against Australia in the upcoming 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, starting on Nov. 22 in Perth. Ahead of the series, India have a lot of concerns with captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not being at their usual best. In the home series versus Bangladesh and New Zealand, both Rohit and Kohli struggled for runs. Hence, many ardent Indian fans are concerned about theirform. However, former BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma has backed the two superstar batters, saying 'players like them are never out of form'.
Chetan told Times of India, "Let's honour and respect what Rohit and Virat have done for the country. Players like Rohit and Virat are never out of form. They are never in a lean or bad patch. These words shouldn't be used for them. We are thankful to them. They are still doing it. We always talk about them and focus on them and want them to shine every time because they are superstars. Just wait and watch what Rohit and Virat do in Australia. They will dazzle with their bats."
Notably, both Rohit and Kohli were woefully out of form against Bangladesh and New Zealand. While Hitman's aggressive approach led to his downfall, Kohli continued to struggle versus spin and often paid the price for trying to score in a hurry. As a result,Rohit scored 133 runs at an average of 13.30, with a solitary half-century in 10 innings. His scoreswere 6, 5, 23, 8, 2, 52, 0, 8, 18 and 11 in the five Tests, (two against the Bangla Tiger andthree versus NZ).
On the other hand, Kohli amassed192 runs in 10 innings at an poor average of 21.33, with one fifty.
It will be interesting to see how Kohli and Rohit respond to the challenge versus the Aussies.
