Sensex falls 354 points on weak global cues, Nifty ends at 11,584

The domestic equity market indices ended with sharp losses following broad-based selling pressure from institutions and traders.

At the end of trading today, Sensex was down 353.87 points at 38585.35, and the Nifty was down 87.65 points at 11,584.30.

About 1134 shares have advanced, 1369 shares declined, and 173 shares are unchanged.

Among the Sensex stocks, HDFC twins, TCS, Asian Paints and Bharti Airtel were among the top losers. HDFC Bank, HDFC, TCS and Asian Paints fell nearly 2% each while Bharti Airtel lost 3%.

Meanwhile, Asian shares also slipped from eight-month highs today as the International Monetary Fund lowered its global growth outlook and as the United States and Europe locked horns over tariffs in a fresh escalation of trade tensions.

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dropped 0.1 per cent, a day after it hit its highest since August 1. The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.4 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei lost 0.7 per cent.
