On 27th September, police were called to the airbase, 90 miles (145 km) west of London, by a local farmer who said she had seen three large white vans parked near the base and a group of "hooded and masked men" running into a field nearby. Armed officers from the local force, Gloucestershire Police, responded and arrested five men on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offenses. However, the British Police let the men out on bail with the Head of UK Counter Terrorism Policing, Laurence Taylor, clarifying that the release does not mean the case is closed. Last week, a 25-year-old British-Iranian dual national was also arrested in connection with the alleged plot. Iran has denied involvement in the incident and described the accusations as baseless. Tehran also summoned the British ambassador in Tehran following the allegations.
