
Russia's submarine building city Severodvinsk located in the Arctic region is set to be sealed off today amid rising cases of coronavirus.

According to the governor of Arkhangelsk region where Severodvinsk is located with over 190,000 people would be shut off from midnight on Friday.
There have been at least 1,000 cases of coronvirus cases in Severodvinsk. Inthe Arkhangelsk region as a whole 2,712 cases have been confirmed.
On Thursday, the city reported 57 new cases, including 30 in the shipyard.
Authorities have already begun to set upcheckpoints as the order to shutdown comes into effect shortly.
Acting regional governor Alexander Tsybulsky told residents that "it wasn't easy to take this decision, it really is needed, you need to stick it out for a week or 10 days so that we don't see the infection rate grow further."
Russia has seen a major surge in coronavirus in the past month with the number of infection cases rising to 449, 256 which is the third highest in the world after the United States and Brazil.
However, the death toll in the country hasn't been as high the US or Brazil where thousands have died due to the virus with the country reporting just over 5,500 deaths
