Chinese Ambassador to Israel Du Wei was found dead Sunday in his apartment in a Tel Aviv suburb, according to Israeli media.

"Police are investigating this as death by natural causes," an Israeli official briefed on the matter told Reuters.
Wei, 58, was found dead in his bed and appears to have died in his sleep. Du Wei left behind a wife and a son. He was appointed as China’s envoy to Israel in February.
A police spokesman confirmed the ambassador's death at the residence in coastal Herzliya, adding only that police were at the scene "as part of the regular procedure".
