Nearly 60% of Israelis would choose Trump in US election if given the chance: Poll

A recent poll by Israel's Channel 12 revealed that most Israelis would back former United StatesPresident Donald Trump if they were allowed to vote in the upcomingUS presidentialelections. The survey found that 58 per cent of respondents would vote for Trump, while 25 per cent would support US Vice President Kamala Harris, and 17 per cent were undecided.
When asked about their views on Israel’s political situation, 43 per cent of participants expressed a desire for immediate elections. Meanwhile, 19 per cent favoured bringing Israeliopposition leaders Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz into the current government to replace far-right ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. A further 28 per cent supported the continuation of the current government.
The poll also asked Israelis who they would prefer as prime minister. Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett emerged as a more popular choice than current leader Benjamin Netanyahu, leading him 40 per cent to 28 per cent.
Meanwhile, Gantz had a slight lead over Netanyahu, 34 per cent to 30 per cent and the prime minister was narrowly ahead of Lapid, 31 per cent to 29 per cent.
Meanwhile, in the United States, Trump is preparing to address the Israeli American Council (IAC) at their national convention. The speech will take place less than two months before the presidential elections and just ahead of the first anniversary of the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war.

This comes as the Republican Party intensifies its outreach to Jewish voters following Hamas’attack on Israel on October 7 and amid widespread anti-Israel protests in the US, some involving progressive groups.
While polls suggest that most Jewish voters are likely to support VP Harris, Jewish Republican activists believe the race will be tighter in swing states.
Trump previously spoke at the IAC conference during his presidency in 2019, one of the few US Jewish events where he is expected to receive a warm reception.
