Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah starred in a close win for Bangladesh over Sri Lanka in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup in the Americas. Dallas in Texas witnessed another close tie in this competition as Bangladesh walked away with crucial two points in their tournament opener with a two-wicket win. During the first innings, seamer Mustafizur Rahman and leg spinner Rishad Hossain picked three wickets each, reducing Sri Lanka to a below-par score.
Bangladesh won the toss and sent Sri Lanka into batting first. Keeper-batter Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis departed early inside the Powerplay. Pathum Nissanka kept the run rate intact with a stunning show, scoring 47 off 28 balls with seven fours and a six.

At least until the middle stage, Sri Lanka looked like posting a decent total on the board, but newcomer Rishad spoiled their plans with three quick wickets, reducing them to 109 for six inside 17 overs. That, however, was enough for Bangladesh to pull the momentum to their side as they restricted Sri Lanka to 124 for nine in 20 overs.
Thushara shines but Sri Lanka falters
Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start, losing three wickets up front, including both openers and Captain Najmul Shanto. Seasoned campaigner Litton Das and batter Hridoy bailed the team out of trouble with a 63-run stand for the fourth wicket, putting Bangladesh back in line for the run chase.
