Man caught with bombs on bus to Delhi, police say major terror plot foiled

The intelligence agencies and Jammu & Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have uncovered a major terror plot to carry out serial bomb blasts in Jammu and Delhi during the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations.

The agencies arrested a Kashmiri youth — who they said was in possession of explosives —Sunday night from a bus that was bound for the national capital from Jammu.

The youth was identified as Arfan Wani, a resident of Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. Eight hand grenades and Rs 60,000 in cash were recovered from his possession, PTI quoted an official as saying.

Meanwhile, a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist Muzamil Ahmad Dar (22) was also arrested from the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir and explosives recovered from his possession, police said.

The accused person was in touch with the other terrorists of JeM and they were planning future attacks.

Police and other security agencies are alert in the wake of intelligence inputs that the Kashmiri militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen plan to carry out terror strikes in Jammu and New Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15.

In view of the arrest, a high alert has been sounded in Jammu. The terrorist is being put through sustained interrogation to ascertain about the plans and his contacts in the city and its outskirts, police said.
