Union External Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday condemned the killing of a 26-year-old Indian-origin student in Kansas City, United States. Swaraj expressed her "heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family". She further added that the matter will be investigated and all possible assistance will be provided to the family.

26-year-old Sharath Koppu was killed after unknown persons opened fire at a restaurant in Kansas City. Koppu hailed from Telangana and was studying at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was rushed to the nearest hospital but succumbed to injuries.

"My cousin (Sharath Koppu) moved to the USA in January this year, after he received a full scholarship to study at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Last night, we got to know that he was brutally killed by gunshots fired by unknown people around 8 pm (USA time). This is a very sad day for all of us," said the victim's cousin, Sandeep Vemulakonda.

Another techie from India was killed in an attack that took place in Kansas, United States last February.

The 33-year-old victim, Srinivas, hailed from Hyderabad and moved to the US to study engineering at the University of Texas. He worked as an aviation systems engineer at Garmin. Srinivas used to meet his friends customarily at Kansas's Austin's Bar and Grill where the tragic incident occurred on February 22, 2017.

US Navy veteran Adam Purinton is accused and convicted of killing Srinivas in a racially motivated hate crime at a bar in Kansas City last year.
