Smriti Irani responds to Rahul Gandhi, calls him 'failed dynast'

Smriti Irani

Story highlights

'A failed dynast today chose to speak about his failed political journeys,' she said

After Rahul Gandhi's no-holds-barred attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union minister Smriti Irani launched a counter-broadside against the Congress vice president.

Addressing the media in Delhi, Irani said Rahul Gandhi was a "failed dynast".

"A failed dynast today chose to speak about his failed political journeys in USA," she said.

Gandi had attacked the prime minister in a speech -- India at 70: Reflections on the Path Forward -- he gave at the University of California, Berkeley earlier on Tuesday morning.

Irani said Gandhi's charges against Prime Minister Narendra Modi were not surprising.

She said he had failed to connect with the people of India and that he was now criticising his political opponents from a foreign platform.

Nor did she agree with Gandhi's statement that dynasts and dynasties are fundamental to India.

And she added that Rahul Gandhi saying the Congress became arrogant under Sonia Gandhi, and lost an election, was a big political confession.
