West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today over National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue.
On Monday, Banerjee lashed out at the central government after nearly 40 lakh people were excluded in the final draft of Assam's NRC report.
The Chief Minister described the NRC move as BJP's vote politics, noting that "ultimately it is Bengal which will suffer". She requested the Home Minister to bring an amendment.
Banerjee said that the people of Assam are suffering and are being isolated through a game plan, they are being made refugees in their own country.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Parliament on Monday asked people not to panic or politicise the issue as the proceedings related to NRC are dealt with the Supreme Court.
NRC move is "happening under the supervision of the Supreme Court. I want to ask the Opposition, what is the Centre's role in this? Such sensitive issues should not be politicized," he noted.
