Migrant from India's Bihar killed by terrorists in J-K's Shopian: Reports

A migrant worker from the Indian state of Bihar was killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's (J-K) Shopian, according to media reports on Friday (Oct 18). The Shopian Police confirmed the incident, identifying it as an act of terrorism.

A report by the news agency PTI said that the man's body was recovered from the Wachi area of Zainapora in Shopian. The victim was working as a labourer in Kashmir and was staying with his colleagues in a rented room.

How was the body found?

One of the victim's colleagues told PTI thatthey left their rented room at 7 in the morning and he was with them for about an hour.

“He got a phone call while we were harvesting corn. He told us that he was going somewhere. When he did not return for some time, we went to look for him. We called his number which kept ringing, but there was no answer. Then we found his body,” the colleague said.

Officials told the news agency that the victim's body had been taken to a hospital for medico-legal formalities, adding, that an investigation was launched.

The incident came just days afterOmar Abdullah was sworn in as the first chief minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

A look at the previous cases

Migrant workers in the valley have been victims of terror attacks in the past as well. This latest incident came months after a migrant worker, also from Bihar, was shot dead by terrorists in Anantnag.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Kashmir Zone Police said that the man succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.This attack came barely a week after a resident of Dehradun was shot at by terrorists in south Kashmir's Herpora.
