 In one of the first ever reservation for orphans in government jobs in the country, Maharashtra government has issued a resolution of 1 per cent parallel reservation for orphans in the open category for education and jobs.

The decision to introduce the reservation was taken in the Maharashtra cabinet in January 2018 while the government resolution (GR) to ratify it was issued on Monday.

The reservation is now applicable for state-level recruitments across all levels.

The government resolution mentions that orphans in institutions or otherwise who are unable to trace their parents or any relative and are unable to tarck their caste will be eligible for the reservation.

The resolution, however, states that the person will have to get a certificate from the women and child department certifying their orphan status, in order to get be eligible for the reservation.
