Eight security forces personnel lost their lives in an encounter in Kashmir's Pulwama.
Three militants have also been killed in the encounter which started on early Saturday morning.
The militants had attacked the police lines early on Saturday morning.
Militants entered the family quarters of the District Police Lines in Pulwama.
Security forces said families had been evacuated from the quarters and that there was no hostage situation.
ANI had earlier reported Lt Gen JS Sandhu, GoC 15 Corps, as saying, "Two terrorists entered family quarters at District Police LInes, Pulwama."
"We brought families out of blocks. Troops are continuing with ops. It is a fidayeen attack. We don't have hostage situation," ANI added Lt Gen Sandhu as saying.
ANI reported that two to three militants were hiding inside the Police Lines and that the encounter was ongoing.
ANI reported earlier that two policemen and 2 CRPF jawans had been injured in the encounter.
