Four terrorists and a Para commando were killed on Tuesday in an encounter with security forces in Nadigam area of South Kashmir's Shopian district.
A Senior Police official has confirmed the report.
The officer further said that the identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.
A cordon and search operation was launched by security forces this morning in the area after intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
The Valley has been witnessing a spurt in terror activities for the past few months.
On November 18, two terrorists associated with terror outfit Al-Badr were killed in an encounter in Rebban area of Shopian district.
