Election Commission bars Navjot Singh Sidhu from campaigning for 3 days

Election Commission of India barred Congress leaders Navjot Singh Sidhu from holding any public meeting, road show, public rally in connection with ongoing Lok Sabha elections for 72 hours over his communal remark he made earlier.

On April 16, Sidhu had warned Muslims not to split their votes and instead defeat the BJP by voting against it unitedly. Following his speech, Elections Commission registered a case against him for violating the model code of conduct for elections.

"I am here to warn my Muslim brothers. They (BJP) are dividing you. By bringing people like (Asadudding) Owaisi here, they want to divide your vote for winning. If you people unite and vote unitedly, then everything will overturn and Modi will be finished," cricketer-turned-politician said in a rally in Bihar.

The temporary ban will come into effect from 10 am on 23 April and will stay till 72 hours.

Lok Sabha elections in Bihar are being held in all seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
