Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh issued an order making it mandatory for all government employees to take dope tests at the time of recruitment and during different stages of their service.

CM Amarinder Singh has taken this step to as a part of the crackdown on the growing drug menace in the state of Punjab.

State government officials are now under the scanner after the announcement.

CM Amarinder Singh has asked the chief secretary to work out the details and issue a notification in the regard soon.

The dope test would be made a mandatory part of the annual medical examination taken by the civil services and police personnel employed by the state government.

The Chief Minister has already issued a strict warning to drug smugglers and peddlers to give up their nefarious activities or face stringent action.

The move is part of the series of initiatives taken by the Chief Minister over the last three days to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab.

The orders came on the day when the Chief Minister formally communicated his Cabinet's recommendation to the Centre, seeking an amendment to the NDPS Act to provide for the death penalty for first-time offenders too.
