After two days of partial shutdown, Chandigarh airport restores air services

After two days of partial shut down of Chandigarh International Airport owing to dust pollution causing low visibility, all domestic and international air services were restored on Saturday.

However, passengers can still face some delays in the departure of flights.

The weather condition has now improved along with visibility as Punjab and Haryana were lashed by overnight rains.

The low visibility following the dust storms had disrupted most of the flight operations in Chandigarh International Airport.

Most of the national and international flights travelling to Chandigarh were suspended due to the low visibility caused by dust storms.

According to media reports, Two flights only took off from Chandigarh airport which were bound for Bangkok.

On Friday, all IndiGo domestic flights and 5 more flights arriving/departing at/from the Chandigarh Airport stand cancelled due to poor visibility. Thirty flights in total were cancelled on Thursday.

Air quality and visibility levels were severely been hit by the dust haze following which the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) yesterday issued an advisory that no construction activity could be carried out for the next two days in districts falling under the National Capital Region (NCR).

Haryana's Environment Minister Vipul Goel said the Board was monitoring the pollution level and would advise further necessary steps in consultation with the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority and the Central Pollution Control Board.

The air quality in several parts of Punjab and Haryana has also been adversely affected for the past two days, officials said.
