Washington DC, the capital of United States, the most powerful country in the world enjoys much less autonomy than the Delhi government

In its ruling on Wednesday, the Supreme Court said that Delhi cannot have a "separate statehood". The court hearing headed by CJI Dipak Misra also said that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi (L-G) does not have the authority to act independently and is bound to act on the advice of the ministers.

The ruling government in the national capital headed by the AAP has been ina tussle with the LG for a long time withAAP accusing the LG of taking orders from the Centre.

Washington DC, the capital of United States, the most powerful country in the world enjoys much less autonomy than the Delhi government.

The citizens of the well known federal district do not have any representatives in the US Senate and only one non-voting representative in the US House of Representatives.

Though Mexico City does not have the powers that others states enjoy, the city has elected representatives in the Mexican Congress who have a say in decision-making. The President or the Mexican Congress introduce bills and make decisions concerning the city.

It is also evident that there is no "universal structure"of governing capital cities.

While South Africa has no constitutionally designated capital. Both Cape Town and Pretoria are part of metropolitan municipalities and do not enjoy any special benefits.
