Timothée Chalamet to star in film based on ping pong player Marty Reisman's life

Dune star Timothée Chalamet's next film will reportedly be based on the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman. According to a report byVariety, Chalamet will star in the film titled Marty Supreme, a movie by Josh Safdie and A24. The film is being written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein. They will be producing it along with Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.
Confirming the latest movie in a social media post, A24 wrote, “Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME starring @RealChalamet. Coming soon.”
Who was Marty Reisman?
Reisman was a table tennis champion who passed away in 2012. In the initial days of his career, he played in Manhattan for bets and prize money. From 1946 to 2002, he won 22 major ping pong titles and also bagged five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. His biggest achievement came at the age of 67 when he participated in the United States National Hardbat Championship. Reisman became the oldest player to win an open national competition in a racket sport. He was famously known as the “wizard of table tennis”.
Chalamet has been vocal about his appreciation for the Safdie brothers. The Safdies are now pursuing solo careers. Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie were planning to make a follow-up to Uncut Gems,starring Adam Sandler. It was to be based on the world of sports memorabilia and baseball but is currently on pause. Marty Supremewill mark Josh’s first solo feature directorial since his 2008 debut, The Pleasure of Being Robbed.
